Current status of SMI College VC's explanation becomes a dilemma for education department
Sindh Madressatul Islam University's vice chancellor's reply vis-à-vis the current status of SMIU's technical section and its college has become a dilemma for the Sindh Education department's higher authorities. The SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Ali Shaikh in response to the education department's query whether the university's constituent SMI College has been closed down or was still functioning has on May 20, 2014, reportedly stated: "The college has been converted into a university and not closed down."
However, Sindh Madressatul Islam College principal in a letter dispatched to Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on May 23, 2014, inter alia stated: "Last batch of SMI College was completed in 2013. The principal's letter further stated: "Since we neither have any staff nor any lab in accordance with the standard of intermediate classes, we would like to return all the practical material which was sent to the SMIU by the BIEK on May 21, 2014."
Terming the SMIU's vice chancellor's statement regarding the SMI College `vague and contradictory', Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association's Karachi chapter's President, Professor Iftikhar Azmi, demanded of the SMIU to continue to arrange for imparting education from Class-I to Class-XII in accordance with its historical tradition till the authorities of the university alter, modify or abolish the programme. In fact, the SMIU's Senate, Syndicate, Academic Council, Boards of Faculties, Boards of Studies and Selection Board are authorised to decide the fate of its constituent school and college, the SPLA chief opined.
