Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) has started series of high-level training courses to help the industry to become compliant of social standards which are a dire need of export-oriented industries. Accordingly, the fire safety management systems were imparted to the knitwear garment industry in Lahore and Faisalabad.
Chairman PHMA Shahzad Azam Khan said the highly unfortunate fire incident in a garment unit in Karachi has damaged the country's image. "Time has come to initiate awareness programmes to reduce such incidents but also to prepare stakeholders for emergency situations." According to him, PHMA has planned to conduct series of training courses for member mills to upgrade systems and capabilities for collective good of labourers. It would also build up image of industry in the world, he added.
