iPhones can now soon be used to open house and car doors along with paying for fare, thanks to the phone’s near-field communication (NFC) chip.

Apple is all set to introduce a major update for its iPhones’ NFC chip, which is at present mostly used for making purchases via Apple Pay. The update is said to have the ability to let users open their NFC-enabled car and house doors from their phones, apart from paying the transit fares and verifying user’s identity, reported The Information.

Apple’s virtual assistant Siri hints about its major makeover

Reports suggest that Apple’s employees have already been using the new features and accessing offices and buildings at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino via their iPhones. The company has reportedly been working along with HID Global, the firm that made Apple’s security systems, since 2014 in order to give iPhone the ability to gain access to buildings and offices.

According to reports, Apple will announce about the new update in its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference set to begin on June 4, wrote Apple Insider.
