The Islamabad High Court Thursday issued notices to three private members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, Israr Abbasi, Mian Shams and Fareeha Iftikhar (PEMRA) in response to a petition filed by Secretary Pemra. A single -member bench of Justice Noor-ul-Haq N. Qureshi heard the petition filed by Secretary Pemra Nasir Ayuab , seeking the suspension of the court's orders through which the bench had suspended show-cause notices issued to three private members of Pemra by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The petitioner also urged the court to rescind its decision of a suspension of notification regarding the appointment executive member, Kamaludin Tipu. During the course of proceedings, Deputy Attorney General Tariq Kokhar, the counsel for the petitioner, appeared before the court. The petitioner pleaded that the three private members did not disclose the factual situation before the bench; adding that the authority is facing difficulties in its day-to-day affairs due to the court's order passed on May 26 without hearing the other party. The petitioner would suffer loss if the said order was not taken back by the court. The petitioner urged the court to review it the May 26 order. The court while issuing notices to three members adjourned the proceedings of the case for an indefinite period.
