Woman's killing in LHC premises: Prime Minister orders prompt action, seeks report
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday took notice of the brutal killing of a woman in the premises of High Court in Lahore. "This crime is totally unacceptable and must be dealt with in accordance with law promptly," the PM said in a statement issued by the PM Office here. The Prime Minister directed the Chief Minister Punjab to take an immediate action and submit a report to his office by Thursday evening.
Farzana Iqbal, 25, was stoned to death in broad daylight in Lahore by her relatives for marrying against the consent of her family.
AFP adds: British Foreign Secretary William Hague condemned the "barbaric" murder of a pregnant woman by her family outside a courtroom in Lahore. Hague urged the Pakistani government to fully investigate the killing of 25-year-old Farzana Parveen and stamp out the practice of killings to defend family "honour".
