Google has lately been improving its Google Maps in different ways and this time, there is a new change where a floating scrolling bar of category searches can be seen on top of the screen.

Initially reported by Android Police, Google Maps is integrating a new user interface within itself that places the category searchers within a floating bar that is shown under the standard search bar. However, reports suggest that this feature is on the latest Google Maps beta for now.

The feature isn’t any new one. The category searches are placed under the ‘Explore’ section of the current Maps interface. The floating bar contains the same icons such as nearby restaurants, cafes, gas stations, among others usually found on usual Maps.

Google spices up Maps by replacing classic navigator arrow

The report suggests that these bars do not always show up. They appear when tapped on a landmark, at which point the buttons show up and the user can scroll through them. Tapping on any of the category will then show all the nearby places fitting under the specific category. A sign that shows this feature is under very early testing, wrote Gadgets Now.

Also, along with the scrolling floating bar, the ‘Layers’ button too, has moved to the top left corner and the categories appear right next to it.

Furthermore, it is probably just a limited early test and not clear when the feature will actually be seen in the usual Maps.
