NA-154 (Lodrah-1): Supreme Court vacates stay against verification of votes through thump impression
The Supreme Court on Friday vacated stay order of Lahore High Court (LHC) Multan Bench against verification of votes in NA-154 (Lodrah-1) through thump impression and directed the Election Tribunal Multan to conduct day to day hearing in the matter. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Jehangir Tareen had challenged his defeat before the Election Tribunal Multan with the plea to verify the votes through thumb impression.
Accepting his plea, the tribunal directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to verify votes through thumb impressions in the constituency. Siddique Baloch, the successful candidate from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, challenged the tribunal verdict in Lahore High Court Multan Bench that granted a stay order in the matter. Tareen invoked the apex court jurisdiction and his appeal against the Lahore High Court Multan Bench was accepted for regular hearing. Disposing of the matter on Friday, a three-judge bench of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali vacated the stay order of the Lahore High Court Multan Bench and issued directives to the tribunal to hear the case on day to day basis.
