Muttahhida Qaumi Movement (MQM) observed Youm-e-Dua on Friday for the well-being of party chief Altaf Hussain besides it also continued the sit-in at Numaish Chowrangi for the fourth consecutive day. A delegation of Sunni Ittehad Council, former president Supreme Court Bar Association Yaseen Azad, civil society members and representatives of journalists also visited the venue to express solidarity with MQM.
Speaking to media persons, MQM's Rabita Committee member and Minister of Health Dr Saghir Ahmed said that Altaf had undergone an angiography besides different tests had also been conducted by doctors in London. "Today we observed Youm-e-Dua and prayed for Altaf Hussain's health and safety," he said, adding that MQM's major cause of concern was the party chief's health.
To a question, Dr Saghir said, "acting Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Mirza met Altaf in the hospital. He also met with his daughter Afza. This new development has been a source of comfort for us". He said that Altaf had contacted with the International Secretariat twice and had advised his supporters to carry on their struggle in a peaceful manner. "Altaf paid great tributes to his supporters and urged his workers and people not to worry about him because adversities had never been able to shake his resolve," he added.
"He (Altaf) also thanked all the political and religious parties and common people who have supported him in difficult time," Dr Saghir said adding that the MQM chief also said the people of Karachi had shown with their peaceful protest that they love peace. Dr Saghir appealed to people to participate in MQM sit-ins in Karachi and other parts of the country and pray for Altaf's safety and health. Meanwhile, the parents of slain Dr Imran Farooq have expressed concerned over the arrest Altaf Hussain. They telephoned the MQM's International Secretariat and expressed their concern and solidarity with Altaf.
