The Sindh government is likely to take a major step by replacing Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo with one of the senior police officers presently posted in Balochistan. In this regard, the Sindh government may ask the federal government to hand over the services of four senior police officers now stationed in Balochistan.
Sources in Sindh Police Department said that Thebo had been made Karachi Police Chief after the Supreme Court had ordered to remove all police officers working in Over Pay Scale. "At the time of relieving former Karachi Police Chief AIG Shahid Hayat, Thebo was the only choice as there was no other police officer in grade 21 to occupy the post in compliance with the apex court orders," they added.
The sources said that the decision to replace Thebo had been made due to his absence from Karachi following the arrest of Muttahidda Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain. The higher provincial authorities had also sought an explanation from Thebo as to where he had been during the days when Karachi was shut for two days, they added.
