A spokesperson for Wapda stated here on Sunday that five units of the Mangla Hydel Power Station tripped last night at about 12:30 am due to a technical fault in power transformer of unit No 4, depriving the national grid of 550MW electricity. He maintained that tripping of the units was not caused by fire as reported by some television channels.
The spokesperson said that immediately after the incident, restoration work was started and Wapda managed to bring two units back on line within two hours. The third unit has also been restored and connected to the national grid Sunday at about 11:30 am, meaning thereby, about 330MW out of 550MW electricity has already been restored to the national grid.
The fourth unit is being repaired and expected to start electricity generation this evening by 8:00 pm. The restoration work on the fifth unit of 110MW is also under way.
