Sindh Abadgar Board has expressed disappointment over the step motherly treatment of the government with agriculture, adding that in the whole world the governments give subsidy to agriculture but in Pakistan the agriculture is taxed.
Talking to media after the meeting of the SAB, its president Abdul Majeed Nizamani said a recent economic survey shows reduction of 2.1 percent in agriculture production growth which was dangerous. He said by giving no subsidy and ever increasing cost of production along with taxation was an open enmity with agriculture and economic suicide.
The SAB has observed ignoring agriculture was shameless if 20% budget was not allocated in the Centre and provinces then the economy was bound to devastation. The board demanded the govt to end the GST of around Rs 60 billions on urea fertilizer with ending of the GST on tractors and agriculture machinery; budget allocation; on agriculture be doubled, 50% increase in agriculture loans and to ban every kind of agriculture commodities import through Wagah border.
He also demanded to start ferry service with Dubai so to export fruit, meat, vegetables and rice and earn foreign exchange. The SAB expressed a concern on the shortage of irrigation water, adding that despite expiry of 70 days of Kharif season 11 main canals of Sindh were running short of water. The Board said by not appointing full time irrigation minister the Sindh government has sent a message that it has no interest in agriculture.
