Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government approves Rs 10 billion Peshawar mass transit project
A high-level meeting held here on Wednesday with KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the chair approved the construction of 27-KM long highway to ply modern bus service under the Peshawar Mass Transit System Corridor from Nasirpur to Hayatabad.
The project will be completed under the public-private partnership with an estimated cost of Rs 10 billion under the command of Mohsin Aziz, an industrialist and Vice Chairman of Board of Investment and Trade (BoIT). The first phase from Nasirpur to Peshawar Cantt will be completed in six months while the rest in nine months. However, the Chief Minister directed the authorities to start work on both phases simultaneously and complete it within the stipulated time of one year.
The Rapid Transit System will have well facilitated bus stops at 22 places while its both ends could be reached in less than one hour with comfort. A fleet of 81 air-conditioned buses would be plied on it through private company with nominal fare. The meeting also decided to allow ambulance and fire brigade vehicles on the corridor. The meeting discussed various aspects of the PMTS corridor and decisions were taken in this regard.
