Punjab government is likely to avoid any new tax in its budget for the fiscal year 2014-15, sources said on Thursday. According to the sources, no new tax will be introduced in Punjab budget 2014-15, to be announced on Friday (today). The sources further revealed that the rate of taxes of only those sections of society will be enhanced which have no direct link to poor strata of society.
Sources further said that total layout of Punjab budget is likely to be around Rs 1030 billion, which included around Rs 900 billion out of the NFC Award. Similarly, much focus is being placed on social sector uplift and billions of rupees are being allocated for education and health. The law and order would be the second top most priority of the government, followed by infrastructure development. An increase of 10 percent in government employees salaries is also on the cards, sources added. The Punjab government would also focus on increasing the provincial revenues for the upcoming financial year, the sources mentioned.
