Secretary General, Jamaat-i-Islami, Liaqat Baloch has questioned the absence of the government counsel in the petition seeking removal of Pervez Musharraf's name from the Exit Control List (ECL) during the hearing on Thursday.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that the Sindh High Court decision on the issue was in line with the law and the Constitution but the government must explain why its counsel did not appear during the hearing. And the next question was whether the government would file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court verdict or not?
Liaqat Baloch said that Pervez Musharraf was being tried under Article 6 of the Constitution and if the government allowed the former military dictator to go abroad before the final decision of the court, it would have negative consequences and create the impression that there were different laws for the poor and the influential. The JI Secretary General further deplored the blame game between the federal and the Sindh governments in regard to the terrorist attack at Karachi airport.
