Seven workers were electrocuted when they were laying a pipeline of Sui-gas near Basira (Muzaffargarh district) then their pipe touched a main transmission line on sand dunes near Basira village some 45 km west of Multan. They were connecting the Turkish colony of flood hit people and a hospital with natural gas on Saturday evening.
DPO Muzaffargarh Rai Zamir-ul-Haq said that a contractor company was doing work round the clock to complete its work of laying gas pipeline before the arrival of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to visit the hospital and colony constructed with the financial assistance of Turkish people.
Accidentally the pipe touched the 11-kv electric line consequently all the workers received severe shock. Four died on the spot and another three died on way to hospital. Those who died are identified as Adnan, Javaid, Muhammad Ali, Liaquat Ali, Yasin and Shehzad while another could not be identified. They all belonged to Okara district. Police have confirmed the death of seven workers. Rescue Officials have confirmed the death of seven workers. Similarly hospital authorities have also said that four workers died on the spot and three died in hospital before getting any medical aid.
