Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government on Saturday assured the opposition members that steps would be taken for creating a new Hazara province in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PML-N wants to create new provinces in the country on the basis of administrative levels.
Dr Muhmmad Azhar Khan Jadoon (NA-17 Abbottabad-1) of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) raised the issue of new Hazara province on the floor of the National Assembly while debating on the Budget-2014-15. He said the government should create maximum provinces in the country on the administrative basis. He said people of Hazara were struggling for the last two-and-half-years for new Hazara province, adding they sacrificed their lives in their movement for a separate Hazara province. He said the government should take measures as per aspirations of Hazara people for creating new province.
The PTI MNA said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly had already adopted a resolution for crating new Hazara province. The KP assembly had sent the resolution to the National Assembly for further process for creating new province, he added. "KP has adopted a resolution with majority votes in March moved by PTI for creating a new Hazara province, which needs be considered by the National Assembly," he maintained.
While debating on budget, Dr Azhar said the government imposed 20 percent tax on foreign investor while 35 percent on local investor which was not justified, adding it should have facilitated the investors by reducing the tax. Endorsing Dr Azhar, Captain Safdar (Retd) of PML-N who also happens to be the son-in-law of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, assured the government would take measures for creating new Hazara province.
Safdar said PM-N also participated in the movement of Hazara people for new province. "We also raised voice for Haraza province...we're with the people of Hazara," he said. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sahrif was going to inaugurate a new motorway for the people of Hazara on August 14.
Iqbal Muhammad of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) said his party was in favour of creating new provinces in the country, adding that for that purpose, his party had presented a bill in the National Assembly for creating new Hazara province, Saraiki and Bahawalpur provinces. He said the government should give relief to the common man by reducing the prices of oil and gas. MNAs Khalil George, Shahjehan Mangrio, Engineer Hameed-ul-Haq, Muhammad Khan Daha, Sajida Begum, Maulana Qamaruddin and others also took part in the debate on budget 2014-15.
