The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh, Professor Dr Abida Taherani has said that the Prime Minister's scheme of fee re-reimbursement would help the youths belonging to less developed areas who could not continue their studies due to not affording the fees of higher education. She said that Prime Minister's scheme was appreciable and would help advance the less developed areas, once this program was completed.
She said this while speaking on the occasion of Cheque Distribution Ceremony under Prime Minister's Fee Reimbursement Scheme held here on Sunday which was organised by University of Sindh where cheques were distributed among students of seven universities and their allied campus in Sindh.
State Minister for Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education, Interior and Narcotics Control, Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman and HEC authorities were also present on the occasion. Dr Taherani said that her university was paying attention to impart higher education with quality and conducting research as it was the need of hour to extend support to the economy by creating skilled and trained youths. "Youth is future, vision, hope and beyond it," she said, adding that if the youths were educated and trained; they would bring the change in the society.
Addressing the ceremony, State Minister for Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education, Interior and Narcotics Control, Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman said that the Prime Minister's Fee Re-reimbursement Scheme was launched to educate and train youths especially from less developed areas including Rural Sindh, Balochistan, South Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan and Fata areas. He said this while speaking on the occasion, he said, "If we succeeded to develop our youth through education and training from less developed areas, they could play their vital role in resolving the socio-economic issues of respective less developed areas in the country.
He said that many programs had been launched for fuelling the youths across the country including Youth Skills Training, Laptop program and Youth Loans in this regard.
"Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif wished that there should be not any area to be less developed in the country," he said while quoting him. Under this vision, the PML-N-led government has prioritised on the issues of 4Es which included Education, Energy, Economy and Extremism, he said.
He said that the government had increased the budget for education and Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the current year and would also increase budget for education from 2 per cent to 4 per cent of the GDP in the next four years.
Despite of limited resources, the government has also injected Rs 100 billion for Youth programs, he said adding that Pakistan has unlimited resources but unfortunately, they all were mismanaged by the previous governments. Highlighting the achievements of the PML-N led government; he said that the Karachi Stock Exchange had almost touched 30,000 points which indicated better growth of economy. "Various Projects have been launched by the PML-N led government for electricity generation which would double the electricity generation from 21000 Megawatt in the next seven years," the state minister said.
Apart from this, the World Bank has also approved amount for the project of Dasu and Bash Dam, he said adding completion such projects would ensure availability of surplus energy at affordable price for common man in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Member HEC, Ghulam Raza Bhatti said that under this program, the fee was being reimbursed to more than 3000 students in Sindh where the government had earmarked Rs 37 million for the province and about 1.2 billion for whole program which would cover all less developed areas in the country.
Under this program, the cheques were distributed among students of seven universities which included Sindh University Jamshoro, Karachi University, Dow Medical University Karachi, NED University Karachi, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro and Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam. However, out of total amount allocated for this program, more than Rs 40 million for seven universities were distributed and of total, more than Rs 20 million for Sindh University only.
