Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the speech of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the National Assembly, extending PPP's full support to the government in carrying out the operation against the militants to the finish.
In a statement issued here, the former President said that the PPP-led coalition government had also launched operation against the militants in Swat in 2009 after exhausting all avenues of negotiations with the militants and after it became abundantly clear that the fanatics were not amenable to any reason and were bent upon taking over the state through guns and bullets.
There is a time when decisions delayed result in inviting crises instead of avoiding them. A decision delayed is not a problem avoided but a crisis invited, he said. The former President said that any further delay in taking the bull by the horns could have catastrophic consequences for the nation. Mr Zardari said that the Parliament, the democratic government, the political parties, the civil society indeed the entire nation should now demonstrate resolve and commitment to fight the battle against the ruthless enemy to the finish. Asif Ali Zardari also called upon the government to prepare a master plan for the rehabilitation of hordes of innocent people who will inevitably be displaced as a result of the operation and also set up a Victim's Support Fund for the purpose.
