Taking a full advantage of former Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani's presence at Sindh Assembly on Tuesday, the opposition urged upon him to persuade the Sindh government to allocate development funds for opposition's lawmakers. Yousuf Raza Gilani visited the Sindh Assembly and observed the proceedings.
The members of the house from either side welcomed him and appreciated his move to face the cases in the court. Welcoming Gilani, opposition leader, Sheharyar Mahar said, "The political victimisation should stop". During the last five years, he said, the tradition of political victimisation continued to spoil the opposition lawmakers' development schemes. Syed Hafeezuddin, a PTI's lawmaker, urged the former PM to help the small opposition in getting their development funds for projects.
"A smaller opposition is treated discriminately," he blamed the Sindh government, saying that "we [opposition] are told to take your funds from courts". He said the opposition lawmakers are also elected by public and not the courts. He appreciated the former prime minister for his courage to face the cases even in Adyala prison.
PML-F's Jam Madad Ali Khan appealed to the former premier to take notice of the provincial opposition's clamour over funds freeze. He said, "Gilani should persuade his party in the province to release the funds to opposition". He also urged the former premier to help release the workers of his party whom the Sindh government had booked in 'fake' cases.
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah urged the judiciary to review the case that disqualified Gilani from contesting polls, saying there are already such precedents, which had reverted the verdicts. He termed the decision against Gilani 'unjust' and 'sudden' that took everyone aback in its wake. He appreciated the former prime minister for his support to the fragile democracy and weak national economy during his incomplete term in power.
Earlier, Sindh Senior Education Minister, Nisar Khuhro, Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman, Mukhesh Milani, Jam Khan Shoro, Shamim Mumtaz Wasi, Land Chand Khursheed Junejo and MQM's lawmakers, Syed Sardar Ahmed, Rauf Siddique, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, and Bilquees Mukhtiar also welcomed Gillani in the house.
