Secretary General, Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC) Liaqat Baloch, has convened an emergency meeting of the MYC, a conglomeration of religious parties at Mansoora Thursday (today), to discuss the situation arising due to the brutal police action on Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) workers ending up killings 11 persons and injuries to over 90 people.
The JI Secretary General called upon the Punjab government to accept its failure on the brutal police action on the Pakistan Awami Tehrik workers ending up in 11 deaths and take stringent action against all those responsible. He said the incident had fully exposed the Punjab government's good governance. He expressed all out support of the JI to the PAT leadership and its workers.
Baloch said the responsibility for the increasing anarchy and unrest in the country lay with the federal government and the ruling parties and the threats to the parliamentary system and national unity were growing. He said it was the federal government responsibility to create an atmosphere of trust at the national level, fix the national priorities on foreign and internal fronts and take the political and religious leadership into confidence in this regard. The JI Secretary General said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Army chief Raheel Sharif had begun military operation in North Waziristan after an upsurge in terrorist and subversive activities in the country and the doors of dialogue had been practically closed.
He said this was a government's unilateral decision and the national leadership and even the KPK government had not been taken into confidence. It also appeared that a road map had not been prepared for the success of the operation nor the problems of the tribal people in the wake of the operation had been estimated. As a result, the difficulties of the tribal people were increasing. Liaqat Baloch made it clear to the Prime Minister that military operation was not the complete solution as a political solution through dialogue was the only way to win over the public confidence.
Liaqat Baloch also stressed upon the government to ensure the security of the tribal people affected by the military operation in North Waziristan, provision of timely help to them and necessary arrangements for them in the harsh weathers. He also reiterated his demand for a special package of Rs 300 billion for the uplift of tribal areas and said this money should be spent through honest, sincere public functionaries so that its benefits reached the people. He said that the oppressive FCR be abolished and local government's institutions are set up there.
