On the call of the Punjab Bar Council (PBC), lawyers observed a strike on Wednesday against the killing of activists including two women of Pakistan Awami Tehreek on Tuesday in Lahore and brutal torture of police on the demonstrators who were protesting against removal of barriers.
All judicial work at the Multan High Court and district court remained suspended. Lawyers also condemned the kidnapping of the nephew of Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Jilani. The people of South Punjab were shocked and grieved over the police action around in Lahore. All major political, religious parties' leaders including PPP Khurshid Ahmed Khan, PTI Ijaz Janjua and MQM Iftikhar Randhawa, JI Asif Mehmood Ikhwani, Pakistan Saraiki Party Dr Nakhba Taj Langah, Peoples Saraki Party Malik Zul-Naurain Bhutta, Saraikistan Democratic Party's Rana Fraz Noon strongly condemned the police action.
They said a democratic government was supposed to adopt lawful and democratic attitude but the brutal police torture on the PAT workers and straight firing proved that the rulers have least regard for democratic and legal norms. They expressed their condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured. Traders have also condemned the police action and attitude of Punjab Law Minister in this regard.
