The judicial commission has directed IG Police Punjab, DG Lahore Development Authority and District Co-ordination Officer Lahore to file their detailed replies before it about police operation against Pakistan Awami Tehrik. The commission directed the DG LDA to present minutes of his meeting held with IGP and Capital City Police Officer Lahore about the operation.
The commission directed the DCO to present report about barriers around secretariat of PAT secretariat. He also asked the DCO to give details about officers who had assigned duties of the government functionaries on the spot for removal of the obstacles. He was given one day for filing these details before the commission.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Sukhera, District Co-ordination Officer Lahore Captain Usman (retired) and Director General of Lahore Development Authority Ahad Khan Cheema appeared before the commission to record their statements whoever the IGP said they were investigating internally and superintendent of Police investigation was heading that process. He said the details of the matter would be shared with the commission after completion.
The DCO however gave no satisfactory reply to the commission. The DG LDA appearing before the court submitted that the matter had nothing to do with him as his department was related to the allotment of the land and nothing else. Justice Ali Akbar Najfi of the LHC as commission has directed the IG to present record of FIRs registered, updates in investigation so far, names of the armed and unarmed police officers deputed on the spot and details about their ranks and name of police officers who had assigned their duties for operation. The commission directed him to submit this report by Friday (today).
It is also pertinent to mention that an advocate submitted an application before the commission requesting Justice Bakar Najfi to quit this commission. He said as the government never implemented suggestions made by various commissions it had appointed for investigation of important matters. He said the governments always used the judiciary to share responsibility of their wrongdoings through appointing judicial commissions just to fulfil the formality. He said in that way the governments played its role in blaming the courts for their wrongdoings. Therefore, the lawyer requested the judge to leave this commission and save judiciary from sharing responsibility of the government. The judge replied him that he would be given appropriate answer in this regard.
