The embassy of Brazil in Islamabad an in acknowledgement of the football fervour that has also swept Pakistan published and distributed a football magazine 'Football' in Urdu and English on the occasion of the 2014 Football World Cup being held in Brazil.
The 2014 Football World Cup began in Brazil on June 12 and would continue till July 13, 2014. During the one month, football fans all over the world would be watching the matches played in 12 different Brazilian cities.
The Brazilians are very proud to host for the second time after 65 years of the establishment of the Football World Cup. Brazil has won the Football World Cup for five times. "We do wish all people in the world to join us in watching the games and sharing the magic of football. This is also the wish of the Embassy of Brazil in Islamabad towards all Pakistanis," the magazine states.
Referring to 'foreign policy and football', the magazine takes quotes of Roberto Jaguaribe, Brazilian Ambassador to the UK, who states 'football is Brazil's best ambassador'.
An estimated 250 million people are directly involved in the football industry in the world, around 1.4 billion people are interested spectators and the FIFA World Cup final attracted something in the order of 340 million television viewers.
In Brazilian formal economy, the sports industry generates over $18 billion a year, and employs over 300,000 people - although analysts emphasise that these statistics are not dependable.
The real numbers could be much larger. Brazilian players' salaries abroad have become a source of income for their families in Brazil. According to the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), the 2014 World Cup will be the highest income generating event in its more than 100 year old history. They expect the World Cup in Brazil will generate 100 percent more income than the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
