Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Friday came down hard at his opponents, asking them to stop pulling government's leg and wait for another five years to get the people's mandate.
"Let us do the work for which we've been voted into power," he said while speaking at the launch of laptop distribution ceremony among position holder students.
Nawaz Sharif also flayed some media channels and stated that they are showing a totally 'different world'. The Prime Minister asked his opponents to wait for five years to get people's mandate as did Pakistan Muslim League (N) patiently instead of creating hurdles in the way of the then government. He said some people are playing a "new game" and questioned about the nature of a revaluation that they want to bring forth through sit-ins. He said the government wants to eliminate terrorism to create peace and tranquillity in the country, end energy crisis and complete mega development projects. He said the electricity shortfall has been reduced. The Prime Minister added the government is unable to pass a legislation due to a lack of majority in the Senate. He said that in order to make the country peaceful, the government wants to introduce a bill to eliminate unlicensed weapons from the country, for which it needs support of all the parliamentary parties. The government has pursued implementation of its agenda during the last one year and distributed loans among the youth which has not been done by any party in the past, according to him.
Nawaz Sharif said the government has special plans for youth and a youth business loan scheme has been successfully launched with more than 12000 youth benefiting from it. He said he is happy to state that the successful candidates have started their businesses. Many of them have even started paying back their loans, according to him.
Nawaz further stated that the fee reimbursement scheme would benefit around 40,000 students. He said the government wants that no student should remain uneducated on account of resource constraints. He said the schemes launched by the government are not party specific and youth across the party are benefiting from the scheme. "I have inaugurated the laptop scheme for students and 100,000 laptops would be distributed amongst the HEC recognised university students," he said, adding the government has initiated programmes to help the needy students by providing them fee reimbursement and technical training. He said that 500,000 students would benefit from laptops scheme during the tenure of the present government. Khunjerab to Gwadar Economic trade corridor and Lahore to Karachi motorway are our major initiatives in this respect, according to him.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the Finance Ministry has already transferred Rs 4 billion to HEC for the procurement of 100,000 laptops. He added that Rs 15 billion has been allocated for youth scheme for the next fiscal year, which will be approved by the Parliament later today (Saturday).
