Violation of court's order: Interior ministry told to submit reply by June 25
The Lahore High Court here on Monday directed interior ministry to submit reply by June 25 in an application questioning violation of a court's previous order with regard to giving access to families of detainees recently released from Bagram jail, Afghanistan.
Earlier Sarah Belal, counsel for Justice Project Pakistan (JPP), argued that one of the former Bagram detainees Iftikhar Ahmed was not being allowed access to his family and legal counsel. She stated that Iftikhar Ahmed, who was currently detained at Sahiwal jail, had been allowed only one meeting with his family for 20 minutes. She said Iftikhar's meeting with legal counsel was under strict supervision of a member of the Special Branch and was in violation of his rights. The counsel argued that this was in violation of the strict directions given by the court to facilitate immediately, unfettered and regular access to the family and lawyers of Iftikhar Ahmed.
