Provincial Commission on Status of Women (PCSW) urged the government to take effective measures for availability of adequate facilities for women internally dislocated due to military action in the North Waziristan Agency. "The concerned departments dealing with IDPs should ensure provision of necessary facilities to tribal women displaced from North Waziristan Agency due to ongoing military operation against the miscreants," said Neelum Toru, Chairperson PCSW.
In a press statement issued here on Monday, Neelum Toru said females of tribal belt were very shy in interacting with outsiders and government should employ experienced women at the registration points. She also appreciated Governor KP who issued directives for employment of middle aged women at IDPs camp as they know the issues of women well and can handle their problem.
Neelum Toru said due to displacement and while staying in camps or off camps, females, especially girls, have become very vulnerable to trafficking and harassment. Press reports have started appearing in press that children are missing from their families during journey to Bannu from Miranshah.
The concerned departments should investigate into these reports and provide safety and protection to the missing children, she added. She observed that among the IDPs there will be scores of pregnant women who need special medical facilities and government should ensure provision of such treatment. Chairperson PCSW Neelum Toru said she is planning to personally visit IDPs camp in a couple of days and meet with women to know about their problems. She said after the visit she will co-ordinate with PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority) and FDMA (Federal Disaster Management Authority) for giving maximum facilities to the IDPs.
