Additional Secretary General Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Saifullah Khan Nyazee, has expressed sorrow and grief over the plight of IDPs driven out of NWA because of the ongoing military operation and condemned the callousness of the Federal Government in dealing with the situation.
He said that it was the responsibility of the federal government to provide adequate funds to look after the basic needs of the displaced families. Identifying Zakat as a main source of funding, he said that refugees and Internally Displaced People (IDP) both fall under the definition of the term Ibn Sabil given by the earlier Jurists. This is one of the avenues of expenditure of Zakat approved by the Quran. All Zakat funds available with the Bait-ul-Maal must be diverted towards the needs of the IDPs. In addition, all persons paying Zakat on the commencement of Ramzan should also keep the needs of the IDPs before them.
Most modern Ulema usually do not mention these refugees and the Ibn Sabil, because they have their own priorities. I urge them to educate the public on this to enable them to give their Zakat to the IDPs. Nyazee also urged all members of PTI to contribute their Zakat to the IDPs who are their fellow Pakistanis confronted with internal displacement - having left their homes and belongings because of the military operation in NWA.
Meeting a delegation of PTI FATA here at the party's Central Secretariat the Additional Secretary General was apprised of the situation prevailing in NWA and in relation to the IDPs. He was told that almost half a million displaced people had no access to basic facilities like shelter, food and clean drinking water.
The biggest sufferers were around 150,000 children who were dying in the heat due to lack of water. The financial aid being provided by the federal government is extremely insufficient while in neighbouring Afghanistan it was almost five times as much. The Additional Secretary General PTI said the ban on the entry of IDPs into provinces other than KP is regrettable. He assured the delegation that PTI Chairman Imran Khan has already directed the KP government to take all possible measures despite not being taken into the loop by the federal government.-PR
