Trucks of relief items dispatched for IDPs: chief minister Punjab pays tributes to army
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif Tuesday said officers and Jawans of Pak Army are engaged in the war against terrorism which is aimed at survival of the country and securing the future of the coming generations.
"The whole nation is praying for its armed forces and is standing by them in the war against terrorism. The nation is rendering supreme sacrifices to purge the country of terrorism and this scourge will be rooted out and Pakistan will be made a haven of peace," he said while talking to media on the occasion of dispatch of trucks of relief items to the displaced persons of North Waziristan at Model Town, today.
Provincial Ministers Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Abdul Waheed Chaudhry, Bilal Yasin, Muhammad Shafiq, Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Members Assembly, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority and concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said provincial government has set up Chief Minister's Relief Fund with a sum of Rs 500 million for Pakhtoon brethren and sisters who have been displaced in the war against terrorism. Punjab cabinet and Assembly Members have announced to donate their one month's salary to the relief fund. On behalf of Punjab government, relief items worth Rs 100 million are being sent to the displaced persons. The first consignment of 50 trucks carrying relief articles including rice, flour, pulses and other commodities is being sent and has been dispatched while more relief goods if required will also be provided by the Punjab government for the people of North Waziristan.
Shahbaz made an appeal to philanthropists and well-to-do segments of the society to extend maximum help to their affected brethren and sisters and donate generously towards the relief fund. He said Pakhtoon brethren and sisters who have been forced to leave their hearths and homes in the war against terrorism will not be left alone at this moment of trial and 180 million people of the country are with the affected of North Waziristan. He said that Punjab government has sent 2,000 tents, 20 thousand flour bags of 20kg each, 14 thousand rice bags of 20kg each and 20 thousand food-hampers for the people of North Waziristan.
He said that a committee headed by Provincial Food Minister Bilal Yasin and comprising elected representatives has also been constituted for the timely and smooth supply of relief assistance. He said that the committee will remain in touch with Federal Government and concerned authorities of North Waziristan to meet the requirements of the affected ones immediately. He said besides sending relief items, the provincial government is also considering to send assistance in the form of cash so that the displaced persons could purchase necessary items to meet their needs.
The Chief Minister said the rich and well-to-do persons should also come forward and provide maximum help to the displaced persons. He said Punjab government will continue to extend all out co-operation till the return and complete rehabilitation of the displaced persons. He prayed that may Allah Almighty resolve the problems of displaced Pakhtoon brethren and sisters so that they could return to their homes at the earliest.
