Chairman Pakistan Chemists and Druggist Association (PCDA), Dr Mushtaq Moorwala urged President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Director General, Civil Aviation Authority, Air Marshal Mohammad Yousuf (Retd) that alternative cold storage arrangement and other storage facilities be made available at Karachi Airport.
In a latter to them he draws their attention towards the fact of the critical situation that prevails in absence of the cold storage facilities, which were destroyed due to unfortunate incident of terrorists at the Karachi airport which set blazed billion worth of goods causing immense loss to the imports, exporters and manufacturers.
Suppliers of imported thermo labile life saving medications, which are very sensitive products that need to be transported and stored between 2 to 8 degree Celsius/centigrade, are currently out of reach/options. These products are imported from global sources, and presently no airline is being facilitated by the ASF, customs, or other government departments/functionaries to bring in product into Karachi airport. It is really pathetic and alarming situation, that knowing full well the various concern government departments are not willing to extend their help.
The products that are imported are extremely critical, sensitive and any breach of supply would be disastrous. Critical care product lines include vaccines, cardiology medications, plasma derived products, recombinant biological medications used in kidney transplantation/dialysis patients, and many more.
Importers and manufacturers have to fight for allocation of quotas especially for Pakistan for such products from our overseas principals as the global demands far exceeds the actual productions of such medications. He demanded that alternate cold storage arrangements and other facilities which are affected should be constructed on war footing either by erecting new cold storage facility or acquire mobile cold storage vans from various sources until fresh facility of cold storage and other desired facilities are built which of course will take due course of time but also facilitates the exports of the country which are presently in uncertain condition.
