Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazl Rahman has urged Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab governments to open their borders to IDPs of Waziristan, as their closed door policy is undermining national unity and their commitment to one Pakistan. In a statement issued by Jan Achakzai, Maulana said that undeclared visa regime had been imposed by the provincial governments while they were the ones spearheading the campaign for military operation.
"They should establish camps and allow the entry of IDPs to enjoy a dignified existence, or else declare that FATA is not part of Pakistan," he demanded. He said if there were any concerns about polio or terrorism, robust checking mechanism could have allayed their fears. He said most IDPs of South Waziristan did not return to their homes due to previous operation. He said that owing to earlier military operations and lack of follow up efforts, people of the effected areas including Swat, returned to devastated homes and villages.
He regretted that provinces and state institutions have again let down people of Waziristan and given its people a raw deal as peanuts were being offered to the IDPs. He urged that provinces should open doors, not confined themselves to giving alms to pretend as if they have real sympathy for the flight of IDPs, while having a shut door policy.
