Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has issued special directives to senior leadership to personally monitor the relief activities for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Wazirsitan Agency (NWA) in the wake of ongoing military operation against the militants.
A spokesman of the PTI told Business Recorder that Hamid Zaman Khan and Fozia Kasuri had left for Bannu on the directives of Imran Khan on Tuesday to take stock of the relief activities. He said that party chairman had set up Imran Khan Foundation for the IDPs and appealed all the resourceful people both inside and outside Pakistan to generously donate for the IDPs in that testing time when they had been forced to leave their homes due to military offensive.
Imran Khan demanded the federal government all the Zakat funds available with the Bait-ul-Maal must be utilised for IDPs. In addition, he said all persons should give their Zakat to IDPs as it was the best way to help their brethren who were in trouble. Imran also called upon the Ulema to create awareness among masses to enable them to give their Zakat to the IDPs, adding all the PTI members had also been directed to give their Zakat for the displaced persons.
The spokesman said the IDPs, of whom 150,000 were children, should be given top priority as they were more prone of disease due to hot weather. He said the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was making all-out efforts to facilitate almost half a million displaced people who had no access to basic facilities like shelter, food and clean drinking water. He reiterated that the biggest victims were the 150,000 children who were dying in the heat due to lack of water, adding financial aid being provided by the federal government was extremely insufficient.
