An important meeting with Deputy Commissioner Lower Dir, Muhammad Sohail in chair was held on Tuesday reviewed arrangements for combating the possible threats of dengue virus during monsoon season. Tehsil Municipal Officers (TMOs), members of District Council, MSF representatives and officials of health department attended the special meeting.
Dr Muhammad Arshad of MSF informed that adequate arrangements have been made for eradication of dengue virus during upcoming monsoon season, adding a special 30 bed anti-dengue ward in District Headquarters Hospital Timergara would be set-up. "Primary symptoms of dengue appear three to 15 days after the mosquito bite and include high fever and severe headache, with severe pain behind the eyes apparent when trying to move the eyes. Other associated symptoms are joint pain, muscle and bone pain, rash, and mild bleeding," he added.
Dr Arshad said if a person observed these symptoms should immediately consult doctors. He said staff would be trained besides publishing literature for an awareness of general public regarding symptom, diagnoses and treatment. On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed airing special programs through FM Radio regarding dengue virus and inclusion of Lady Health Workers during the campaign, adding fumigation spray in low laying areas should also be conducted.
