KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that the rationalisation and fine tuning of Information department is a step towards a greater role for the public sector institution redefining their role to be responsive to the public interests. The government, he said, has made its mind to trim down the already swelled public sector institutions relegating their role in consonance with the needs of masses.
"PTI led coalition government is going to translate the aspiration of the people and make the government departments to deliver because our government is responsive to the public expectations", he added. It cannot afford letting down the people as it got the mandate of the public, he reiterated and asserted that it is the trusty to ensure that the public money is spent judiciously and there is no room for wastage of resources.
These remarks he made while talking to representative delegation of the journalists community of Hazara division here at his chamber in KP assembly. Provincial Minister for Information Shah Farman Khan, Minister Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani, Minister Food Haji Qalander Khan Lodhi and MPA/ Chairman DDAC Abbottabad Sardar Muhammad Idrees were also present on this occasion while the delegation included Sardar Naveed Alam President Abbottabad Press Club (APC), Sardar Shafique General Secretary APC, Ahmad Nawaz Khan President Hazara Newspapers Society, Sardar Shujah Ahmad General Secretary HNS, Raja Muhammad Haroon, Aamir Shezad Jadoon, Muhammad Shahid Chaudry and Jaffar Tanoli President Haripur Press Club.
The delegation besides highlighting the vibrant role of Hazara media in national cohesion and public opinion molding put forward certain problems and demands including non closure of the Abbottabad regional office of Information department to facilitate local media, clearance of the advertisement arrears and enhancement of the advertisements quota.
Appreciating the positive role of the print and electronic media of Hazara division, Pervez Khattak said that we are not oblivious to the dominant role of media as it is the media which transformed the public opinion at international level and it had dominant role in the emancipation of nations of the world.
He said that we want nothing from our media but to adopt the attitude of positive criticism and pin point the flaws in the government machinery and society in general to enable the political and government leadership to rectify it for good as well as discourage the yellow journalism of black mailing and just looking bad in the good things. He said that our media has to play responsible role in the present media war and onslaught of electronic and social media that is being viewed and analysed world over.
He expressed the confidence that our media will also come up to the expectations of the government and people by keeping the national interests above all things and will never compromise it at any cost media of the developed world.
About advertisement policy of the provincial government, Chief Minister said that the government has already evolved a transparent mechanism for the distribution of advertisements to the media. There will be no favour and nobody should fear that they would be given injustice at any stage of distribution of advertising formula. He said the government wanted to highlight what is in the public interest and what was doing for the benefit of man in the street. He reminded that the decision for the rationalisation, fine tuning and wrapping up of regional offices of the Information department will stay. The government would not revisit this decision in larger public interest. He said his government is safe guardian of the public money to ensure its judicious and transparent use and not to spoil any single penny of the hard earned money of the poor masses. He assured resolution of all other problems of the delegation.
