Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Wednesday witnessed uproar and ruckus as the opposition benches protested the repeated threat of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan to dissolve the provincial assembly. The opposition legislators including Nighat Yasmeen Orakzai of PPP and Raja Faisal Zaman of PML-N also submitted a joint privilege motion in the assembly secretariat against Imran Khan for breaching the privilege of the members.
The angry opposition also staged walkout from the assembly for what they termed the undemocratic, unconstitutional and immature statement of PTI chief. In an interview the Imran Khan had threatened for the third time to dissolve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly if his demands regarding verification of votes in four constituencies were not met, said the opposition MPAs said. The house later passed the supplementary budget for 2014-15 worth Rs16.36 billion amid the uproar.
The issue was raised by JUI-F MPA Manawar Khan through a point of order. He said that Imran Khan has reiterated to dissolve the assembly for putting pressure on the federal government. He announced walkout from the assembly to lodge protest following by other lawmakers of the assembly.
The provincial ministers including Shah Farman, Mohammad Atif Khan, Ali Amin Gandapore and several MPAs of the treasury benches went to the opposition lobby to persuade them for ending the boycott. Later, they returned to the house.
Opposition Leader, Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman said that he wondered that why Imran Khan was linking the rigging in the previous general elections with the dissolution of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly. "The threat of Imran Khan is unserious and undemocratic," he said.
Taking the floor Lutf-ur-Rehman reminded Imran Khan that why they not resigning from the National and Punjab Assemblies to protest the alleged rigging instead of dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
Nighat Orakzai of PPP said that the repeated threats of Imran Khan to dissolve the provincial assembly were tantamount to disrespect of the mandate given by the masses to their elected representatives. "A person becomes mature after 60 and Imran Khan has crossed that age. He should demonstrate maturity", she said.
Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha of PML-N said that the PTI chief instead of strengthening is harming the democracy. He said instead of targeting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Imran Khan should go to the Supreme Court and other institutions.
