The Indus River System Authority increased outflow from Tarbela dam on the river Indus from 1,07,000 cusecs to 1,59,900 cusecs water - an increase of 52,000 cusecs - on Wednesday to augment hydel power generation canal irrigation water across the country.
According to 25th June rivers flows and reservoirs level report of WAPDA, 1,49,100 cusecs of water is running in the mighty Indus at Tarbela, 83,200 cusecs in river Kabul at Nowshera, 53,700 cusecs in river Chenab and 45,000 cusecs at Marala headwork. Water inflow in river Chenab has come down by about 35,000 cusecs from 79,200 to 45,000 cusecs.
Punjab Irrigation department is releasing 34,000 cusecs water in the Marala - Ravi link canal and Upper Chanab Canal UCC to irrigate crops in the central Punjab.
FLOOD SITUATION:
The Flood Warning Centre said that river Kabul at Nowshera is in Medium Flood Level. All the other major rivers are flowing in their state of normal flow.
COUNTRY WIDE FORECAST FOR TODAY:
Scattered thunderstorm/rain would occur over Northern Punjab (with isolated moderate to relative heavy falls over Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions & Islamabad) and Kashmir (with isolated moderate to relative heavy falls). Further, isolated dust thunderstorm/rain may ensue over Makran, Kalat, Quetta, Zhob, Karachi, and Hyderabad divisions, FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (with a few moderate to relative heavy falls over Hazara division), Gilgit- Baltistan and Southern Punjab.
