Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwer has said that Punjab government has launched latest system for welfare grants of factory workers and labourers under Punjab Workers Welfare Board (PWWB) throughout the province.
He said this while addressing the ceremony of cheques distribution of marriage grants for the daughters of industrial workers of Lahore district under Labour Department and PWWB.
The Minister said that PWWB's new computerised system aimed at to accelerate the welfare grants cases to ensure transparency, enhancement of performance and reduction of workload throughout the province with online computerisation and a computer along with printer and scanner has been handed over to all the 36 district offices for online processing of welfare cases linked with PWWB head office. The Minister informed that training has also been imparted to the officials of the district offices in this regard. The system would maintain a database of all the workers along with their profiles and complete history of grants received and status of all grants applied and stages of approval.
A transparent monitoring system has also been set up to evaluate the performance of all district labour offices, he added.
He said that more than 40,000 children of labourers are imparted free education in the schools of PWWB while more than 1000 children has been given the facility of free education in the modern education institutes like COMSAT. He further said that Punjab government has decided to build 20,000 flats for the labourers in the current fiscal year and these flats will be handed over on ownership basis. President PML-N Labour Wing Lahore, Shahzad Anwar, General Secretary Muthida Labour Federation Haneef Ramay, Additional Secretary Labour and Human Resource Nasir Jameel, Secretary PWWB Khalid Mehmood, DG Labour Welfare Hsnaat Javaid, District Officer Labour Lahore Chaudhry Muhammad Naeem, representatives of employers and employees and a large number of industrial workers were also present at this occasion.
