The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the sister of slain Perveen Rehman, a Karachi-based social worker who was shot dead, to record her statement before the court on next date of hearing. A three-member bench headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk resumed the hearing of a constitutional petition filed by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) about Perveen Rehman brutal murder.
Raheel Kamran Sheikh, the counsel for HRCP, apprised the bench that Parveen Rehman's sister wanted to record her statement before the court which could be helpful in the investigation.
The court accepted the plea and allowed her to record her statement before the court in presence of Sindh deputy inspector general (DIG) crime investigation department (CID) Sultan Ali Khawaja.
The court was informed that the investigating process of the murder case has been accelerated and the police were probing into different aspects of murder.
The court was further informed that before the killing of Perveen Rehman, a director of associated with one her pilot projects, narrowly escaped a murder attempt.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that Perveen Rehman was a social worker and apparently she had no enmity with anyone and her killing was an unfortunate incident.
The court adjourned the hearing till July 10.
Earlier, a report of a judicial inquiry into the investigation of the murder had been presented in the court which suggested that the investigation of the matter was not fair and has recommended that the whole case be reinvestigated. According to the report, the mafias were making an annual Rs500 million from this racket and they could not afford a voice being raised against them
Parveen Rehman was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle on Manghopir Road on March 13 last year.
