Pakistan has attained a unique next generation technology to provide satellite based internet services ie O3b (Interactive Group E Solutions, JLT) to the consumers, revolutionising the IT technology in the country.
Industry sources have confirmed here on Wednesday that Pakistan will be one of the first to offer O3b's superior low latency, high bandwidth service to it's markets. This is an advanced technology introduced in Pakistan to enhance the satellite based internet services. The O3b has successfully installed its initial ground infrastructure near Karachi in liaison with its exclusive local partner the "Interactive Group E Solutions, JLT (an interactive Group Company)". The O3b network is already connecting customers across the globe and will begin its services to customers across Pakistan this year. This new service will enable 3G/4G capabilities as well as many cloud-based applications in the far-flung and hard terrains of Balochistan, KP and Gilgit-Baltistan.
"O3b", stands for the "Other 3 billion" people in recognition of the world's population who either don't have or have severely limited internet access. The idea of the "Other 3 billion" is a significant stepping stone in diminishing the technological disparity between the core and periphery.
The O3b project is financially backed by globally respected stakeholders including, SES Google, HSBC, Liberty Global, Allen and Company, Northbridge Venture Partners, Soroof International, Development Bank of South Africa, Sofina and Satya Capital.
This lightning fast service is enabling service providers in underserved markets and countries across the globe, to innovate and offer up a broad range of solutions, from interactive video conferencing to cloud computing. The O3b's next four satellites will be launched into orbit on July 10, 2014 completing the initial constellation of eight satellites. Four more are set to launch shortly after, further enhancing the performance of the network.
The O3b has developed an innovative technological solution combined with crucial benefits that traditional satellite providers lack. The shift in satellite technology is bridging the gaps in world-wide broadband availability, with a flexible and strategic broadband infrastructure. The significant cost effectiveness complements and boosts the National Service Providers' ability to build out to all corners of the globe and ensure a reliable service during disasters/emergencies and geo/political conflict. It was previously constrained due to the traditional infrastructure that lack Fiber Access in the rural, remote, under served and marginalized communities as well as difficult terrains.
In addition to bringing high bandwidth capacity, the network improves network responsiveness, with speeds four-times faster than the traditional technology, with a comparatively low latency round trip of less than 150 milliseconds, far better than existing latency rate of 600-800 m/s. The steerable beams are easily and instantly place-able within the boundaries of country according to customer demand.
Initially, O3b is offering this revolutionary technology of O3b to Telecom Operators, ISPs, Mobile/ Wireless Network Operators, Satellite Service Providers, Enterprise Operators including Oil & Gas, Maritime, and Governments in the underserved markets. The O3b is offering its customers opportunities that were not possible before including the potential to accelerate economic growth.
