Former secretary of agriculture Punjab and chief executive of Pakistan Agriculture Coalition Arif Nadeem has said the growers themselves have to give more attention on agriculture adding the PAC was ready to help them so that they can get appropriate prices of their commodities including cotton. He was addressing a meeting of agriculturists at Sindh Chamber of Agriculture here Wednesday.
He asked growers to get their fruits and vegetables reached Mandis in time so as to get good price. He was of view that when the growers get new variety of seeds the production will itself increase. He said they were providing modern technique and knowledge of cultivation to growers so that they can get good production of crops on less water as is done in Australia and other countries. He said Karachi Mandi was biggest in Sindh but when the growers take their agriculture production there they are exploited by commission agents resulting loss instead of profit to growers. He said they want to set up such centres in collaboration with private sector so that growers can get appropriate prices. He said there was very good production of mangoes in Sindh but prices vary between what the growers get and what is sold in bazaar.
He stressed on need of such a price formula under which growers can benefit. He said in the whole world vegetable markets are developing but in Pakistan they are drifting downwards because agriculture inspectors are interested in minting money.
Earlier, General Secretary of SCA Nabi Bux Sathio welcoming the guest said that they do a lot of labour and spend much money on raising the crops but get very low price. The meeting was attended by Syed Nazir Hyder Shah, Abdul Jabbar Memon, Muhammad Khan Sarejo, Aijaz Nabi Shah, Abdul Karim Talpur, Fazal Qadir Memon and others.
