Head of the GSP unit in DG Trade Brussels Nikolaos Zaimis visited APTMA Punjab on Thursday and discussed the business and investment climate as well as trade prospects for Pakistan under the GSP plus. Acting Chairman APTMA Punjab Syed Ali Ahsan welcomed him at the APTMA Punjab Office. Other office-bearers of APTMA Punjab were also present on the occasion.
A detailed presentation was made to the visiting EU official regarding activities of APTMA and benefits as well as challenges out of the GSP plus facility for Pakistan since January 2014. Zaimis appreciated the role of APTMA in preparing the industry for benefiting from the GSP plus facility. He said both the Pakistan government and the textile industry will have to work hand-in-hand to sustain benefits of the GSP plus status from the EU. He further said the political and economic image needs to be improved by the time review of GSP plus takes place and an active management of the GSP plus will be helpful to keep Pakistan on the list of GSP for 10 years.
