How ironic it is that when Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has praised the Punjab government for making serious efforts towards reviving economic activities in a meaningful manner, the business community of Karachi is running from pillar to post to ensure a peaceful environment in the largest city of the country. It is interesting to note that not only has LCCI hailed the performance of Punjab government, it has also declared that it will supplement all efforts of the Punjab government aimed at revival of economic activities.
In a letter written to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, the LCCI Acting President Mian Tariq Misbah has reportedly said the business community appreciates the valiant efforts taken by the provincial government. The Sindh government is therefore also required to take some concrete steps aimed at creating a conducive environment for economic growth. But the PPP-led coalition government must not lose sight of the fact that peace is a necessary pre-condition for trade, sustained economic growth and prosperity.
