Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan has criticised the government for not taking initiatives aimed at broadening tax net in budget 2014-15. He said that the government has record of around 39,00,000 privileged class people who despite having big houses, luxury cars and whose children have been getting education abroad and undertaking numerous foreign tours, were paying no taxes.
Talking to newsmen, he suggested to the government to confiscate and auction property of these privileged class people and deposit the amount so recovered in government treasury if they failed to provide details of their income and expenses. Senator Haseeb noted that it was visible that where the loans obtained during Musharraf were spent, but it was not known where the loans received after 2008 had gone.
He pointed out that Ishaq Dar while sitting on the opposition benches had opposed dependence on loans from IMF, but after becoming finance minister he also started pursuing the policies of previous government and running the government on IMF loan.
