State Minister for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali has said that the government can not end loadshedding completely during the holy month of Ramazan due to non-availability more mega watts and infrastructure system which is not supportive for maximum mega watts transmission. Speaking a press conference here on Thursday, he said that maximum efforts were being taken to reduce loadshedding during Iftar, Sehari and Tarvis hours.
The government was focusing on updating transmission lines system and new power plants which could help to eliminate energy crisis in the country and it would take some time to be functional, he said. The Sindh government had to pay 27 billion rupees to distribution companies including HESCO but the payment had not been made so far, he said, adding the committee had been formed to resolve the issue of over-billing raised by the Sindh government.
Moreover, distribution companies had to collect 17 billion rupees from private sectors and a time of one and half months was being extended to them to clear the pending dues, he said, adding after this period, their power supply would be disconnected. No employee of distribution companies would be spared if he/she were found to be involved in facilitating the electricity theft, he said.
He said that he would himself visit different villages in remote areas of Sindh province to know their grievances including the issue of over-billing during the holy month of Ramadan. All political parties should have to be united by setting political differences aside to resolve the issues of internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs), he said. "There are 600,000 IDPs sitting under open sky and waiting for their help," he said.
The minister said that Pak Army and ISI were fighting for Pakistan and many of them had sacrificed their lives for this cause. "We have also to extend all support to make them (Pak Army and ISI) strong as the prevailing issue of terrorism could be eliminated in the country," Ali said. Due to better policies and decisions of the PML-N-led government, the economy had witnessed the better growth in the country during one year tenure, he claimed.
Such step has threatened the some people of groups who are criticising the government, Minister said. He said that Imran Khan was targeting the government only to give a cover-up over the PTI-led government's failure in KP because the provincial government could not deliver to people there. "We suggest Imran Khan to focus on the issue of the KP's people and also do something there rather than doing politics," he said.
