Sindh National Party (SNP) and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) have warned the government of launching protests and sit-ins against the possible influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan in the province. Talking to Business Recorder, Amir Bhanbhro, SNP Chairman, called for new social contract between the federal government and the provinces, as according to him the Constitution which took the life of its chief architect, Zulifqar Ali Bhutto, had became redundant.
Criticising the Sindh government, he said "the Chief Minister had claimed that the provincial borders had been sealed owing to influx of IDPs but the statement was changed within a few hours and now the government is welcoming IDPs, which proves that the PPP is not loyal to Sindh and Sindhies." "No more IDPs would be allowed to stay here; millions of SNP workers would give a tough time to them and the government functionaries as well as those who issued welcome statements," he warned.
He observed that the respective provincial governments had always played an anti-Sindh role, as those people who had taken shelters in Sindh created serious problems for the province. Bhanbhro asked the Sindh government to open its eyes as during the past one decade terrorist activities in the province had increased manyfold. He said that the SNP was planning to launch protests and sit-ins in every district headquarter of the province to let the common people know that IDPs could create panic in Sindh.
Dr Niaz Kalani, JSQM Senior Vice-Chairman, said that his party had already started protests in various cities while a series of protests and sit-ins in other major cities would be started from June 29. He criticised Qaim Ali Shah for announcing Rs 50 million financial assistance for IDPs, saying that Sindh was not the property of Shah or any minister.
He said that Shah had made this announcement while winding up the general discussion on budget 2014-15, while millions of flood-affected people in Sindh were still waiting for remaining instalments of Watan Cards. He said that "during the last provincial government of PPP, Swat IDPs were welcomed in Sindh and were paid Rs 10,000 per family to meet their immediate needs and the result of this gesture came in the shape of terrorism and worsening law and order situation in Karachi and other areas of the province". Dr Kalani regretted that the Chief Minister also announced that truck loads of relief goods would be sent for NWA IDPs, while the people of Tharparkar were dying due to hunger.
