The Supreme Court on Monday disposed of an election plea filed by incumbent Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah. Syed Ghous Ali Shah had challenged before the Election Tribunal Syed Qaim Ali Shah's victory from PS-29 claiming rigging in the constituency. Syed Qaim Ali Shah had objected, arguing that the appellant had not mentioned the mode of rigging; however, the tribunal had turned down his objection.
Consequently, Syed Qaim Ali Shah challenged the Election Tribunal's decision in Sindh High Court (SHC) whose division bench rejected the tribunal's verdict and granted him a stay order in the matter. On Monday, appearing before a three-member bench of Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, the counsel for Syed Qaim Ali Shah pleaded that the process of voters' verification by the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) in the constituency was not transparent which led his client to seek remedy from the SHC against an Election Tribunal's decision in the matter.
He further argued before the bench that his client would suffer an irreparable loss if the stay order of the SHC was not extended, saying no bench of the SHC had been formed due to holidays. Rejecting the plea for an extension in the stay order, the bench referred the matter to the SHC for adjudication and disposed of the matter.
