A Full Court meeting was held on Thursday at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, under the Chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani. The meeting was attended by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed, Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman, Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Umar Ata Bandial. Syed Tahir Shahbaz, Registrar Supreme Court, also attended the meeting.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the purpose of the meeting was to review the performance of the Supreme Court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases and to deliberate on the issues and matters pertaining to functioning of the Court.
Discussing the issue of overall institution, disposal and pendency of cases in Supreme Court, the full court meeting noted that as against institution figure of 3862 cases for the period from 05.04.2014 to 30.06.2014 the Court decided 3533 cases during the period. It was noted that there was rising trend in the institution of cases. Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa informed the Full Court that during the period of last six months out of 3700 criminal cases, 2000 have been disposed of along with freshly instituted cases, leaving only 1700 cases pending. The Chief Justice of Pakistan noted that it was a remarkable disposal.
The Judges lauded the services rendered by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani as Chief Justice of Pakistan as well as Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan who was going to lay down the robes of his office on July 05, 2014. They lauded the professional and legal acumen of the Chief Justice and said that he possessed the God gifted qualities of politeness, magnanimity, calmness and composure.
They further said that the Chief Justice possessed extra-ordinary visionary qualities. His tenure as Chief Justice of Pakistan will always be remembered as golden period of judiciary in the history of Pakistan and he will long be remembered for his unprecedented judgements on human rights, environmental issues, rights of minorities and women. The Chief Justice said that due to the co-operation and support of the Judges, it became possible for him to advance the cause of justice.-PR
