Corruption, other charges: inquiry initiated against former Municipal Commissioner Raisi
Anti Corruption Department and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have initiated inquiry against former Municipal Commissioner South, Mohammad Raisi, for his alleged involvement in corruption and other malpractices, sources told Business Recorder.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mohammad Raisi was removed from his post a couple of days ago after he misbehaved with Administrator South Afzal Zaidi. "He (Raisi) ransacked the office of Administrator South on a petty issue that prompted Afzal Zaidi to get FIR registered against him," a source said.
Soon after the incident, Mohammad Raisi was removed from his post and Akhtar Shaikh was appointed as new Municipal Commissioner South. According to sources, Mohammad Raisi was hired as a Muslim 'Qully' in Grade 1 in 1992. Later, he was illegally promoted to BPS 18 within a short span of 12 years. During the period, he served in and enjoyed different key administrative posts, such as Health Inspector, Town Officer Infrastructure (TOI), Town Municipal Officer Lyari, Administrator Lyari Town, and Municipal Commissioner South.
He has been accused of illegally hiring some 30 blue-eyed persons in different departments illegally, and most of them are said to be his relatives including cousins, and nephews. He was said to be indulged in malpractices and administrative corruption because he had promoted his fellows without considering merit and eligibility. Raisi is also accused of granting promotions to his near and dears, as the posts of BPS 14 to BPS 17 were occupied by his fellows, who were appointed in grade one in 1992. Sources further informed that intelligence agencies were carrying out investigations against him for his alleged involvement in patronising and supervising the extortion mafia in Kemari and Lyari areas. He is also said to be involved in providing illegal support and amnesty to different people through embezzling the resources of Kemari and Lyari areas.
