The installation of Forgery Detection Machines at major airports have positively helped authorities to identify forged documents and control human trafficking cases. This equipment magnifies images on any document to a very high degree and can identify the forged documents.
As per information issued by Ministry of Interior here on Sunday, numerous measures have been adopted to control human trafficking and major among them was establishment of Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) at all entry and exit immigration points.
The other measures were establishment of facilitation and complaint centers at major airports and affixation of banners at all immigration counters, displaying Federal Investigation Agency website for registration of complaints by public.
The Ministry said major routes of human trafficking have also been identified while the authorities established Immigration Liaison Officer in Oman.
The authorities also launched a public awareness campaign in collaboration with international government organisations and Non-Government Organisation (NGOs). Moreover, establishment of Immigration Vigilance Unit (IVU) and Internal Accountability Unit (IAU) was also part of steps to identify the staffs who connive with human traffickers and to proceed against them if incriminating evidence is available. The Red Book for 2013-2014, containing names of most wanted human traffickers was also published.
The Ministry said accountability and zero tolerance policy of FIA staff in general and immigration staff in particular is being pursued if anyone is found involved in assisting illegal migration or human trafficking. FIA has established a Helpline (051-9261104) and website www.fia.gov.pk for public to give information pertaining to agents who are involved in trafficking.
