Equities on Monday moved both ways on the Lahore Stock Exchange and finally settled in negative zone amid improved trading turnover. The LSE-25 index was marginally declined by 3.55 points to close at 5583.14 against 5586.69 of last Friday while transaction volume was increased to 815,700 shares compared with previous volume of 463,500 shares.
The market was opened on a healthy note and stayed in green zone almost throughout the day. The sentiments could not remain intact, as last hour selling pressure in select scrips like Abbott Laboratories, Packages Limited, Tri-Pack Films, Lafarge Pakistan Cement, Bank of Punjab, Bank Alfalah, Dewan Farooq Motors, Avanceon Limited, K-Electric, and PTCL dragged the market into negative zone. However, buyers' interest in Hascol Petroleum, Byco Petroleum, Pak Gul Leasing, Lotte Chemical Pakistan, Chashma Sugar Mills, Fauji Cement, PIAC and Pak Elektron helped market avert more declines.
The losers were more than the gainers, as out of a total of 73 active issues, eight companies posted gains, 10 suffered losses while 55 companies remained unchanged at their previous closing. Pak Gulf Leasing gained 80-paisa while Hascol Petroleum and Lotte Chemical Pakistan were up by 74-paisa and 65-paisa, respectively. Abbott Laboratories lost Rs 27.96, Packages Limited was declined by Rs 26.16 while Tri-Pack Film was down by Rs 8.49. Silk Bank with trading of 325,000 shares topped the volume leaders followed by PIAC with 141,500 shares.
