The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday launched 'Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Policy 2014' - the first ever policy of its kind in the history of the country - to explore the untapped minerals in the province. The policy was formally launched by KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak at a function, where PTI chairman Imran Khan was the chief guest.
Imran said the successive governments did not pay any attention to human resource development. He said the PTI-led government's special focus was on human resource development for which it had specialty focused the mineral sector. He commended the KP Chief Minister for giving priority to the mineral sector, saying that this would help in creating job opportunities, earning revenues, besides attracting foreign investors. He said the provincial government would import technology from Italy to boost marble mining in the province.
"It's a long-term policy which will usher in a new era of development in the province in years to come," he added. According to him, the provincial government started working to formulate a policy for exploring the mineral sector. "We sat to put forth a comprehensive mineral policy after an Australian investor told me that no investor could come from abroad unless there is a proper policy to explore the minerals," he added.
He said that the people of Balochistan resisted exploration of minerals as there was no proper policy, adding that KP's provincial government would spend the revenue generated through minerals on education and health. Imran said that the provincial government was also going to launch another policy about environment, adding that under the policy millions saplings of various varieties would be planted and the number of national parks would be increased from the existing seven.
